An interactive computer applet detailing gun violence in the United States in 2011.

Each slide represents a different screen of the applet, and each state has it's own square. The white is relative to how many homicides occurred in that state in 2011, where the yellow represents how many of those homicides were firearm-related. Orange diamonds call out all incidences of mass shootings in the last 20 years and can be toggled on and off. Click through for more detailed descriptions of each slide.
